“Down The Slope” James Otis Saalfield Publishing Rare 1899 Edition Black/Orange/Green.
So what makes this edition so rare? The Saalfield Publishing Co did two editions of this book, one in 1899 & one in 1903. Almost all that you find have a red and blue with gold color. This one is black and orange with black lettering on a green background. I have a feeling that this is a printing run during Depression Era or WWII when they tried to cut back and make books more affordable for the general public to purchase. Also, this edition has fewer Illustrations then others I found. Finally, this edition has nine pages in the back of advertisements for other books published by Saalfield for the first time in the late 1920’s.
