  • Edward Marten

    Founder and Chief Executive Officer – Prior to founding QuotedData in 2013, Edward spent over 10 years in investment banking with Cazenove (now JP Morgan Cazenove) and before that, Collins Stewart (now Canaccord Genuity).  At Cazenove, Edward focused on Investment Trusts, working with the number-one Extel-rated team, and broadened his focus to Pan European equities, servicing a global investor base and raising over €1 billion for companies. Following his departure from investment banking, Edward set up an equity agency broker that was subsequently sold to SpareBank1Markets, part of the second biggest savings alliance in Norway. Edward also sits on the Marten & Co board.

  • James Carthew

    Founder and Head of Investment Company Research  – James started his career at M&G in 1984 where he wrote research on a wide variety of UK companies and managed a number of UK equity funds as well as M&G’s Fund of Investment Trusts. From 2001-2010 he managed Advance UK Trust PLC, a global fund of funds that promoted good corporate governance within the closed-end fund industry. James is a non-executive director of several companies. He writes articles on the closed-end fund industry for  various publications, including a regular column in Citywire, and sits on the judging panel for the Investment Company of the Year Awards. James also sits on the Marten & Co board.

  • Matthew Read

    Senior Research Analyst and Head of Production – Matthew graduated in economics from the University of York in 1995 and, following a period working in the Insurance broking industry, gained his MSc in Finance from Cass Business School in 2000. Mathew has considerable experience analysing closed-end funds; first of all for Quantec Ltd., as part of his MSc studies, and then at Teather and Greenwood where Matthew produced daily statistics and weekly recommendations on investment trusts whilst providing analytical support to the rest of the business. In 2002 Matthew made the shift to writing sponsored research, initially at Hardman & Co and then at Edison from 2008, where the client base expanded from just two funds to over 50 during his tenure.

  • David McFadyen

    Equity Sales – David has over 30 years’ experience in the Investment Trust and Structured Investment sectors, working in research and sales roles for investment banks, such as CSFB and ABN AMRO as well as stockbrokers/distributors, such as Winterflood Securities and Meteor Asset Management. As an analyst David developed statistical reports which have been widely used in the analysis of split capital investment funds and structured investments. He has extensive experience in investment fund IPOs including the launch of the Polar Capital Global Healthcare Trust and the Henderson International Income Trust. More recently he has acted as a distributor of structured investments to both institutional managers and retail advisers.

  • Robin Davison

    Biotech/Healthcare Analyst – Equity research analyst, commentator and consultant in the biotech/pharma industry with 25 years of experience. Consultant on business, financing and IR strategies to biotech companies. Commentator on biotech/pharma industry affairs for EP Vantage and MedNous. Occasional presenter at industry/investor conferences.

     

  • Tim Franklin

    Biotech and Healthcare Equity Sales  – Dr Tim Franklin. Tim has a wealth of experience gained in senior positions as an analyst, fund manager and consultant. He started his investment banking career as an analyst with ABN Amro and later became Dresdner Kleinwort’s lead analyst on EU large-market pharmaceutical companies.  Most recently, Tim held the position of CEO at Syndermix AG, a private skincare company where he was responsible for developing the business proposition ahead of its sale to an EU private equity firm. Tim holds a PhD in Pharmacology from Loughborough University and an MBA from Warwick University.

  • Peter Quist

    Pan European Equity Analyst – Peter has more than twenty years’ experience in various positions within Investment Banking. After initially working as a management consultant he spent the early part of his career as an equity analyst, primarily with a focus on Danish equities. He has covered sectors including industrials, technology, transportation, support services and real estate. He then spent more than ten years on the buy side as a prop trader and investment manager responsible for European equity portfolios and Global equity mandates.

  • Alistair Harkness

    Equity Sales – Alistair has over 16 years’ experience in the Investment Trust and Wealth Management sectors, working in a variety of roles at both large and small firms. Alistair has acted as gatekeeper for one of the largest investment trust owners, Brewin Dolphin, where he stewarded circa £2bn of assets. Following this Alistair worked as an investment manager at the boutique investment management firm Rossie House.

  • Vicki Barker

    Marketing and Communications Manager – Vicki is an experienced corporate communications and investor relations professional who has most recently worked for InfraRed Capital Partners as Communications Manager.  Prior to that she held various positions at the then FTSE 250-listed transport business, Associated British Ports Holdings PLC, culminating in her role as the company’s Investor Relations Manager.  Vicki started her career as a trainee analyst with National Westminster Bank.

     

  • Ella Biggs

    Social Media Manager – Ella develops strategic campaigns across many social media platforms, optimising these platforms by finding and engaging with key influencers, as well as developing content strategies and reports on key performance indicators. For six years she worked at Lazard Asset Management as a Sales Support Executive in its Third Party Distribution Team, focusing on looking after clients, supporting the sales managers and promoting new products to a wide range of financial institutions.

  • Fiona Nicolson

    Editor – Fiona is an experienced editor, writer and communications consultant, specialising in financial services. She has written for a wide range of respected publications, including: the Financial Times’ Financial Adviser magazine, the Scotsman, Lloyds TSB’s Wealth of Ideas magazine and many more.

    Her first writing and editing role was at the London Stock Exchange and since then Fiona has worked on commentaries, thought leadership articles and white papers for some of the biggest names in global fund management.

  • Kandy Rohmann

    Executive Assistant and Investor Relations – Kandy is an experienced investment banking professional who has provided trading floor support for Merrill Lynch and RBS, amongst other leading institutions.  Most recently, she has worked in a family office environment in an administrative and office management function.

  • Alexander Tarver

    Investment Writer – Alex’s career in financial services began in 1987 working with private clients and advisors as a mutual fund and investment trust analyst and fund of funds manager.  He joined Gartmore in 1995 and has worked with some of the industry’s most well-known asset management teams as fund analyst, investment communicator, PR and product specialist, including Aviva Investors, Fidelity and HSBC Global Asset Management.  In 2011, Alex joined Friends Life to set up an Investment Communications Desk before moving to its corporate DC pensions team.  Before joining Marten & Co, he was working with diversified growth funds and managed portfolio services. In addition to multi-asset investing, Alex has worked with fund managers in most asset classes and styles, including global equities, fixed income, REITS and alternatives.

  • Distribution Team

    We have three researchers in CRM and email distribution, two in social media, one in SEO but also a team of highly specialist and qualified contractors helping with other areas. The head count including contractors, part time and temporary staff has grown from 2 to 35 people since 2012.

Hiring Needs

We are actively hiring analysts in all sectors, especially as investment bank models of research, which is paid for by trading commissions, move to unbundled commissioned research. We are set up to take advantage of this structural move. Initially we would like to focus on financials, property, biotech, oil & gas, mining, consumer and technology. However, we are open-minded to this development, depending on quality of the person or team. We want the best, however if this quality is not available we’ll train up new talent.

We are also hiring equity salespersons with investment trust, mining, financial and property specialisms.
