CEO – Edward has worked for 10 years in Investment Banking with Cazenove (now JP Morgan Cazenove), Collins Stewart (now Canaccord Genuity) and then set up an equity agency broker that was subsequently sold to SpareBank1Markets, part of the second biggest savings alliance in Norway. At Cazenove Edward focused on Investment Trusts with the number one Extel rated team and broadened his focus to Pan European equities servicing a global investor base and raising over €1 billion for companies.
Head of Investment Trust research and board director – James started his career at M&G in 1984, where he managed UK equity income funds as well as the M&G Fund of Investment Trusts. In 2001 he moved to manage the Advance UK Trust PLC, a quoted global fund of funds that specialised in the promotion of good corporate governance within the closed-end fund industry and aimed to work with Boards, Managers and Advisers. James is a judge on the Investment Week Investment Company of the Year Awards and writes articles on the closed-end fund industry, including a regular column in Citywire.
Investment Company analyst and head of publications – Matthew graduated in economics from the University of York in 1995 and, following a period working in the Insurance broking industry, gained his MSc in Finance from Cass Business School in 2000. Mathew has considerable experience analysing closed-end funds; first of all for Quantec Ltd., as part of his MSc studies, and then at Teather and Greenwood where Matthew produced daily statistics and weekly recommendations on investment trusts whilst providing analytical support to the rest of the business. In 2002 Matthew made the shift to writing sponsored research, initially at Hardman & Co and then at Edison from 2008. During his time at Edison, the client base was expanded from just two funds to over 50 and he is joining Marten & Co with the same ambition.
Equity sales – Alistair has over 16 years’ experience in the Investment Trust and Wealth Management sectors. Working in a variety of roles at both large and small firms. Alistair has acted as gatekeeper for one of the largest investment trust owners, Brewin Dolphin, where he stewarded circa £2bn of assets. Following this Alistair worked as an investment manager at the boutique Investment management firm Rossie House
Mining analyst – Paul has nearly forty years experience in various positions within the mining industry. After initially working as a mining engineer he spent much of his career as a commodity and equity analyst specialising in the gold sector and has been Editor of World Gold Analyst since 1996. Paul graduated from the Camborne School of Mines as a mining engineer and subsequently obtained an MSc in Mineral Economics and an MBA, from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. He is an established speaker on investment in gold and gold stocks as well as themes in gold mining at many institutional, retail and industry conferences worldwide.
Pan European Equity Analyst – Peter has more than twenty years experience in various positions within Investment Banking. After initially working as a management consultant he spent the early part of his career as an equity analyst primarily with a focus on Danish equities. He has covered sectors including industrials, technology, transportation, support services and real estate. He then spent more than 10 years on the buy side as a prop trader and investment manager being responsible for European equity portfolios and Global equity mandates.
Biotech/Healthcare Analyst – Equity research analyst, commentator and consultant in the biotech/pharma industry with 25 years of experience. Consultant on business, financing and IR strategies to biotech companies. Commentator on biotech/pharma industry affairs for EP Vantage and MedNous. Occasional presenter at industry/investor conferences.
Alternatives and financials research analyst – Kevin Ryan is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute of London and also has an MBA. He has worked as both a buy and sell side insurance equity analyst and has 26 years experience. He was rated the best stock picker in the UK Insurance sector by Starmine in 2010 & third in 2012. He has extensive experience in corporate restructurings & IPOs; these have ranged from working on Lloyd’s R&R in the mid 1990s to the Direct Line IPO in 2012. More recently he has worked as an independent consultant helping to set up an alternative insurance company focused asset manager.
Marketing and Communications Manager – Vicki is an experienced corporate communications and investor relations professional who has most recently worked for InfraRed Capital Partners as Communications Manager. Prior to that she held various positions at the then FTSE 250-listed transport business, Associated British Ports Holdings PLC, culminating in her role as the company’s Investor Relations Manager. Vicki started her career as a trainee analyst with National Westminster Bank.
Editor – Fiona is an experienced editor, writer and communications consultant, specialising in financial services. She has written for a wide range of respected publications, including the Financial Times’ Financial Adviser magazine; the Scotsman; Lloyds TSB’s Wealth of Ideas magazine and many more.
Her first writing and editing role was at the London Stock Exchange and since then Fiona has worked on commentaries, thought leadership articles and white papers for some of the biggest names in global fund management.
Social Media Manager – She develops strategic campaigns across many social media platforms, optimises these platforms including finding and engaging with key influencers, developing content strategies, and reports on key performance indicators. For 6 years she worked at Lazard Asset Management as a Sales Support Executive in their Third Party Distribution Team focusing on looking after clients, supporting the sales managers and promoting new products to a wide range of financial institutions. She is also an independent trader.
We have three researchers in CRM and email distribution, two in social media, one in SEO but also a team of highly specialist and qualified contractors helping with other areas. The head count including contractors, part time and temporary staff has grown from 2 to 35 people since 2012.

However, we are open-minded to this development, depending on quality of the person or team. We want the best, however if this quality is not available we’ll train up new talent.
